After beating the final boss on my 23rd run and playing for about a day, I feel like I can give a complete reflection about my thoughts on the game. It should be noted that I did play the Switch version.
The combat is pretty good. There is a variety of weapons and spells you can get at multiple points in each of your runs which are randomized, which makes each run feel different. Even your main weapon, the scythe, can be changed at the beginning of each run. The bosses and mini bosses are difficult and fun, but the regular enemies and arenas aren't very difficult aside from the final department.
The bosses and minibosses are the best part of the game for me. All of them have unique patterns and are very fun to duel against. The music that plays during their respective fights fits the bosses very well, and the arena designs look overall very good. The best the game has to offer shines in these fights, and makes up for the rather easy and at times dull regular enemy encounters.
The characters are great. The cast of characters are very diverse in both design and personality, and all of them are very memorable and enjoyable to talk to. Most of them also have backstories and lore that is observable in the handbook section of the pause menu. My personal favorite character is Maxxx, but the entirety of the cast is lovable in their own ways.
The music is great. Each track fits the location it plays in and adds to each location. Quite a few tracks are rather unremarkable, but there are a lot of tracks that are memorable and very enjoyable, such as "Ms. Imamura, Cataclysm Lady," "Warfare Ward," "Maxxx, Addicted to Violence," and "Waldo, At Your Service!"
Like most roguelikes, it does have replayability. The main encourager of replaying is the difficulty system. Each time you successfully complete a run at the highest available difficulty, a new "Breakdown" difficulty is unlocked up to breakdown 15. I can't say much about this system, as I've only unlocked breakdown 1, but from what I've experienced, it is a solid system.
The art style is amazing. It's pleasing to look at in terms of its design and colors, both of which give this game a unique identity. The color scheme, which contains mostly bleak colors, fits the game and its concept incredibly well, adding to the idea that you are in Death's business. The backgrounds look fantastic and the stage design is great as well.
The story is pretty good. To summarize, you are playing as Death himself trying to stop the chaos the department heads are causing in his business so that he can take a much needed vacation. The story isn't taken too seriously and it's filled with just enough humor. It isn't a masterpiece of a story, but it doesn't need to be one to be enjoyable.
I will say that I did encounter a few bugs in my playthrough. However, none of these bugs interfered with the combat and mostly occurred in the starting area. Nothing game breaking.
Overall, I'd say this is a pretty good game. The best aspects of the game are the characters and bosses, and it's weakest aspects are the regular enemies and arenas. It ain't no Hades or Isaac, but I had a good time playing this. This game is absolutely underrated, and I encourage people to give it a try and give it the attention it deserves.
