The movie is beautifully animated both in 3d and 2d styles, the setting is creative (yes i know other animes have done the whole online thing before) and I quite liked the presentation. The story however is lacking. SPOILER AHEAD. So for the first half of the film its great it puts out a very interesting mystery but by the end they handle a very serious situation poorly. The beast is not who you think it is but someone else entirely in a bad emotionally abusive situation. This was fine. I thought it was a creative way to bring the message that you shouldn't be scared to be yourself, but in the end a highschooler goes alone to handle the abusive figure instead of a police officer or any other adult. Someone who could actually help the situation. And in the end the kid that's being abused decides he should just stand up for himself. Horrible way to handle it. We don't even get to see if they have a better life and I have to assume they're still living with an emotionally abusive figure. I know abuse isn't very well handled in all places in the world but the ending just knocked this movie down for me . Beautifully animated movie but the story needed more work and polish.
