One of the worst zombie movies, actually movies in general I’ve watched. I was getting angry watching some of the plots at how ridiculous and senseless they were.
I watched the Army of Thieves first (maybe that’s a mistake), liked it and decided to watch the Army of Dead, expecting at least the same level of entertaining value with cleverness and humor. Even though Army of Thieves is far from movie of the year, it’s still enjoyable, but AOD was a huge disappointment. The writing was infuriatingly cliche and lazy with so many plot holes and unnecessary side stories. The shooting was very video game like (some might like it), the acting was forced, even exaggerated at parts, and the ending was just so unoriginal even though you can tell they tried to be clever.
I don’t remember all the bad plots, but the one I’m most angry about was the stupid daughter insisting on personally rescuing her friend because “she has two kids”, despite not having any zombie fighting experience or contributing skill set. Maybe the more responsible thing to do would be to take care of the kids instead of trying to find their mother on a super dangerous mission which she would very likely died on, then the kids are truly alone and helpless. Spoiler alert: nobody got the money in the end which made this pointless mission’s purpose was to salvage the strained father daughter relationship that the writers didn’t shed much light on beforehand and used only 30 second to explained.
Another one was about the girl who died first on the mission. She got set up by the head of security and trapped in a room full of zombies. She made it out by herself to only die in front of all her teammates while nobody was helping her. And while she could’ve used her last breath to warn everybody about the guy, she chose to yell “run” and make a heroine face while her gas tank blew up. And speaking of the shady head of security, while I fully enjoyed watch him being gnawed on by the zombie tiger, wasn’t he supposed to be on the roof where the chopper was? Why was he on the ground in front of the casino?
The last one, the guy who was saved by the safecracker and got locked in the vault somehow escaped through some underground vent. If you watched the Army of Thieves, this lock was supposed to be nearly impossible to crack, but somehow it’s accessible through some vent? Then what’s the point of having such a masterfully crafted lock?
And of course the cliche ending about the seemingly safe survivor going to a different city, finding out he got bitten, leaving possibility for a sequel (please don’t).
Btw, they also thought there was a need to make a film about making this film. Who cares?!
