Wow. Just wow. This was an amazing book. I listened to the audiobook and it was amazing just because the author was the narrator. It was amazing because Hannah V Sawyer handled this subject sooo well. She wrote this without it being triggering without giving TOO many details but just enough. A teen going through an assault by a well known well liked member of the community is always a difficult subject but it’s a REAL subject. Sawyer captured the voice of a young girl going through the pain of being assaulted and not knowing what to do. The book was poetic in the most perfect way. This book handles death of a parent, assault, insecurities about looks(being darker skin, being bigger than friends), lack of bonding with the alive parent.
I could’ve used this book when I was younger- it would’ve been a game changer.
“I stood firm in my truth. The only truth.” - just beautiful.
