This movie is highly offensive to Foundational Black Americans. The writer who is Nigerian American, purposely distorted the truth in this movie. Emmit Til never intentionally flirted or whistled purposefully at Carolyn Bryant. It is also a fact that an all White mob came to remove from the home Emmit and lynched him. Emmit was also portrayed to be somewhat of a trouble maker or thug in the movie by him and his cousins smoking cigarettes and holding what seemed to be a beer. I am utterly disgusted with this movie. This is why Foundational Black Americans must control our own narratives. Nigerians who call us Akata’s (cotton pickers) should never write or tell our history. Furthermore, I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that the writer depicted them picking cotton.
