A remarkable book by such a young author, but not that remarkable otherwise. Nonetheless, an excellent work and a great start with a lot of potential. A tad too much Star Wars and Indiana Jones influence at times. The plot is lively though dating itself with a shade too many social concerns of our own time frame. The author pays admirable attention to historical detail.
A bit predictable, it makes for light reading. It reveals a contemporary teen perspective on many adult issues, but as such it is a stark reminder that many wars are fought by teenage soldiers. The book has been more spell-checked than proofread, thus containing many Internet-style typos and dropped connectives, but keeps well-focused.
In all, a great starting point for a talented young author. I hope he follows up with more.
