I loved this show. It's so nice to see a slow paced show where teenagers actually look like teenagers. It's a bit of a mesh between Love, Victor and Elite, just a lot more relatable. I also like that it focuses on being sweet rather than being sexual. The story felt realistic, and not over the top (except for the main antagonist because I seriously can't imagine people like that creepy and controlling idiot actually exist), but overall the problems of the relationship made sense.
Side characters were underdeveloped, but it's understandable since it was such a short show. However, I LOVED the diversity. The popular girl is a nice brown / heavy girl with skin issues. She's not a perfect 25-y-o supermodel; she's just pretty and very nice, and that is often how the real popular girls in schools are. There's a also pretty good depiction of Asperger's, but the Vyvanse addiction was only really brushed on and forgotten a few episodes later (in reality, Vyvanse withdrawal can last even a few years).
So, breath of fresh air into the teen dramas that have gotten stale over the last 2 decades. There's always a place for shows like Riverdale, Gossip Girl, Elite, 13 Reasons Why, Love Victor, and All American, but this show made a mark of its own without relying on over dramatic plot lines, just sheer cuteness and chemistry.
I only hope they fix August, the antagonist, or get rid of him altogether. He's the most unrealistic thing in the whole show... and it's a show about a gay prince.
