I fell for the hype and got a personalised signed copy from the author at an event my wife brought me to. It’s like an exercise in how many words you can use to describe nothing happening. She wanted to write her own Moby Dick but less interesting. As a white male I felt like this story wasn’t for me but as an Irishman I understand colonialism as we were Britain's first colony and suffered it for 800 years. I couldn’t care about any characters and basically just rage read it to get through.
