In light of where we are today in global warming, with fires of ever greater intensity ravaging the West Coast of America, it might be time to revisit at Al Gore's prophetic 2002 documentary,"An Inconvenient Truth," and grasp that we didn't seem to take its message seriously enough: that we need to reduce carbon emissions to slow down accelerating climate change, and that the Earth is a fragile planet that deserves to be treated with great care. We are witnessing storms and fires of greater intensity each year, the polar ice caps melting, the destruction of the rain forests, and the ocean's rising temperatures as proof of the Greenhouse effect, yet the current government buries is head in the sand, led by the great Denier-in-Chief. We need a national strategy for addressing climate change, but the fossil fuel industry in conjunction with our government will resist with all its might. I can only imagine if Al Gore had been successful in his presidentrial bid in 200O and not stymied by the Supreme Court, we might be inhabiting a different, healthier world now. The time for action was then, but the urgent need to act like never before is now. Our planet depends on it.
