I went to Late night hoping to see Larry Sanders Mk. 2, but this was nowhere near. The movie was a bit like the main character- Emma Thompson at her most mannered- difficult to warm to.
It was all rather earnest, overwritten & with none of the chutzpah of the characters in the Sanders series. It needed a Hank or an Arthur to counterbalance the Thompson character. The ten gag writers (really? ten?) & Mindy Kaling, plucky but miscast did not fit the bill. An ailing husband, John Lithgow, brought in to make the talk show host more human, looked out of place.
This was a disappointment for me. had expected much more.
