Yet another so called historical novel that just romance set in a war time Era. Never hear about what happened to the matchmaker friend after Maria leaves England except she becomes a nurse. That the present day girl has no idea of her grandmother's life seems odd considering her escape from England and the friends supposedly had reunions.

Not really any so called history especially the WW2 section. The former cook let's the estate owner adopt her nephew then drops out never to be heard from and the boy seems to not know about his original family or that he was adopted. The land girl marries an officer and is friends with the cook but never seems to disclose this information to her family either though living in the same county. Not much detail in gardening either just another romance novel

The manor film scenes are really just a copy of the scenes from Singing in the Rain when Debbie Reynolds talks and sings for the pretty actress with a grating voice. The villa in the south of France was a nice gift from Violet though it put her family into a tailspin. Guess Mary and Henry are history but adding new couples from the servants quarters is a nice touch.
