This movie has the honor of having my most hated ending of all time. I was gutted and miserable at what I perceived (at the time) as the “message”. I haven’t seen it since it came out 42 years ago, but now seeing that others had the same visceral reaction to the ending, and that others think it was great - that may have been the screenwriter/filmmaker/director’s vision. To be divisive, create conversation. My boyfriend, at the time, loved the ending. That was a wake up call.
