I’ve been a viewer of this show for many years. It’s been my “go-to” morning news show since Charlie Rose was one of the hosts. I also watch CBS Sunday Mornings and love that show…
First, the use of the trumpet, during the week, just doesn’t work. Gayle King’s voice sounds artificially happy…and I like Gayle King very much!
The whole AM Intro is discordant with the tenor of the news. I find myself wanting to bypass the “Eye”Intro as quickly as possible.
Secondly, the set lacks warmth. I do like the chair set-up later in the show. But the use of so much white in the set, feels cold.
Finally and most importantly, it was hard to see Anthony Mason leave the show. Nate seems cool but Anthony’s knowledge of “everything” is now lacking. If Anthony wanted to leave, why not give a host’s chair to Vlad Duthier?
All in all, I now find myself looking around to other AM news shows for my “go-to” show. I love the news content of CBS Mornings. But my frustration about all these changes are not dissipating.
When I turn on the am news, I don’t want to be serenaded. I want to feel confidence that my show-of-choice is capturing the most important aspects of global news. And I want to feel comfort that the team of hosts knows more about world affairs than I do. The set reflects the gravitas of what they’re talking about.
To that end, I feel that CBS messed up some of the best aspects of the previous show. The change of tenor - as reflected in the trumpet, the set and the loss of Anthony - make the show discordant with the seriousness of the issues.
