My gratitude to George Clooney as well as the cast and crew for making this movie, however, the film, in a phrase, missed the boat. It was an enormously difficult task to capture the multiple compelling stories in the book, from Joe Rantz' heartbreakimg childhood to the moving love story between Joe and Joyce, and the clash of values between rural America and 1930s Germany. But the movie basically focused solely on the chase for the gold medal by basically throwing away the book and writing a nearly unrecognizable race quest. I hope a full mini series emerges in the future.
