This is a GREAT game, but know what you're getting into. The game expects you to play through it a lot, since you will die, a lot. Unlike other games, where dying feels like grinding, dying in this game is a means of progression. In roguelike fashion, death is permadeath, but it allows you to go back and add permanent upgrades to your character. Additionally, multiple playthroughs allow you to get to know characters - bosses remember the last time you fought them and will either mock you for losing to them last time or promise revenge if you beat them last time. The game introduces new enemy types after many playthroughs (e.g. *very minor spoiler* - after beating a certain boss many times, you go to the boss chamber and find her sister instead of her, who has similar powers but slightly different). I kind of expected to hate this game because I thought it would feel like grinding. It doesn't. Because, theoretically, you're getting stronger in each playthrough, each attempt is different. But don't go into this hoping/expecting to breeze through it in a couple hours - the game wasn't intended to be played that way and you'll miss out on the journey if you just try to rush to the end. In looking at the game's subreddit, it seems it takes people 20-35 attempts before beating it the first time (it took me 23). Even then, the game is so replayable that there is incentive to just keep playing. I highly recommend this game.
