A horror anthology coming from Director Guillermo del Toro, the Spanish mastermind with an illustrious filmography which includes some classics - the amalgamation of his creativity with the imaginative space of horror is definitely something and doesn't disappoint at all.
I really like how the show tackles all sorts of different themes from greed, corruption. vanity and loss with their downside - portrayed in a graphic fashion. All the monsters - on call to socialize, including demons, giant rats, creaky skeletons, and zombies.
Each chapter tells a very simple but ambiguous story and almost all of these end on kind of a cliffhanger. While the themes overlap, the tales themselves are wonderfully varied. If you think that your deepest fear won't be covered, think again.
This is not just another “spooky anthology” it's something more enjoyable and deep. Cabinet of Curiosities has a moral in each episode. But you don’t feel you are being preached to: the messages never overpower the stories.
This isn't for everyone but despite that, this is a really solid anthology that has a good range of horror, definitely a terrific start of a series that may live up to the master’s promise.
So open up del Toro’s fantastic cabinet and peek inside - if you dare!!!
