Took the kids to this movie and they were on the edge of their seats the whole time.
My friend and I grew up with the originals and he literally couldn't stop smiling the whole movie, I really liked it and thought it was a worthwhile contribution to the series. I would have given 5 stars, but it is a bit of a nostalgia fest. I think a bit more originality would have been good, but overall still a much better job than the god awful Ghostbusters 3.
Having the main character as a young girl shows audiences are not bound to the idea of male protagonists perpetuated through our youth. We just want a good movie, not a cash grab exploitation of our childhood.
This movie delivers combining fresh ideas with the old storyline. Respect is given to the fans as well as newcomers to the franchise.
I have to agree with some of the reviews that say this is too much fan service and too nostalgia driven, but not to the extent some people are exaggerating. A little yes but mostly appropriate.
I have no idea why the critics are so harsh, remember these are the same critics who said The Last Jedi was phenomenal and give it top ratings whilst audience reviews bombed completely.
I think they have their own agenda as to what they want to be popular. They're not actually listening to what audiences want, and are instead trying to impose their idea of a good movie.
This movie had to make up for the damage Ghostbusters 3 inflicted to the franchise. And I would say it did that.
Forget what the grown ups think.
The fact the kids came out of the movie theatre glowing with smiles on their faces, saying things like:
"Whoa! That was so awesome!!!"
Says it all for me.
They did a good job with this movie.
I have no idea why this didn't come out around Halloween as it would have been amazing to see then. But gives us something to look forward to as I can't wait to watch it again next Halloween following the first two movies.
This movie is canon.
Ghostbusters 3 is some weird universe of its own in a bizarre multiverse. The arcs and storylines of that movie were completely sidestepped as though the movie never even happened. And I for one am so glad of this. It never should have happened.
The good thing about this movie is it sets up the next generation of characters so well that now the new Ghostbusters character generation can continue their adventures without the need to cling to the old squad. But it would be good to see them in a cameo from time to time.
I'd love to see a Netflix series based on the new generation hunting ghosts. Not animated, but with the cast of this movie.
