Saw this 36 years ago, an evening I had nothing to do and decided to give a try to a totally unknown director. I was blown away. Fantastic atmosphere. Loved it. Never saw it again et, but certainly will.

The basic idea is interesting. But there is this painful, cheap Hollywood love story between an atheist and a deist, an union that is sealed when "love" transcends all barriers, that is utterly ridiculous and is no doubt a concession in exchange of financing from Hollywood-The-Dumb. The depiction of the "travel" thru time-space is very cliche, and the "meeting" between the main protagonist and a human-masquaraded alien on a fake Hawaii beach just plain hilarious, stupid, and anti-climax. I did like the photography of the radio-telescope fields, and the rain.

Just another Hollywood love story. An IRA assassin in prison is offered an opportunity by US Intelligence to revenge kill a murderer who, many years before, shot his pregnant girlfriend who lost the baby. The girlfriend has remarried since, and both protagonists are sad and melancholic about this. It ends up that following some nebulous circumstances, it is the girlfriend who finally takes revenge and kill the murderer. Because the IRA assassin and the murderer are played respectively by Richard Gere and Bruce Willis, not much happens at all in terms of sentiments in the movie and my guess is that this is why the director decided to spice this story out of the blue with some complot to kill the wife of the US President, trying to fill the void. It does not work.
