Found this delightful Kiwi film from New Zealand, while perusing the library. Having previously worked with kids in the foster care system, I figured this would be great fun. I was not wrong.
Ricky Baker is a parentless little gangster wanna be, Bella is from the bush, who gives Ricky a gun shortly after she's told not to, Hec just wants to be left alone. Without giving spoilers, Ricky and Hec end up out in the bush, running from child services who want to take Ricky away again.
There's some innuendo that may not be appropriate for younger audiences, however, they probably won't understand it anyway.
Fun and memorable quotes.
"Are you gonna run away in the morning?" Bella to Ricky.
Ricky, "probably."
Bella, "just be back by breakfast."

Ricky to Hec, "I have just one rule. I get to call you Uncle."
Hec, "I have just one rule. Don't shoot me."
