The show pawn stars has interesting moments! But as far as the customer that comes in the store, that’s what I have a problem with! They will bring in, some thing that survived the Civil War, and Rick will get a second opinion, and after the second opinion, Rick will stand right there and tell the Customer, even after the historian says that the item, let’s say it’s a gun, is the only one left on earth, and that you could easily get $50,000 for it, under the right circumstances! Then the customer will say he wants 50,000 for it, which common sense will tell you, that that won’t happen, not at a pawnshop! then Rick will say I’ll give you $800 for it! Then he starts talking about he has to pay for the store, the lights, the retail space, and I do understand that to a certain degree, but the store was there with the power on before the customer came in with the gun! And unfortunately, nine out of 10 people will sell it to Rick for $800! I had a musical instrument that was 30 years old and it was in mint condition. When I took it to try to sell it, the pawn shop actually had a grading chart that they used to determine the value of the musical instrument. they told me, that it was almost perfect, except for the case that it was in needed to be upgraded! I had looked, at comparables, and the instrument that I had retailed for $3200 new! The guy at the pawnshop told me in my little town, that he would give me $72 for it! After I regained my composure, and the guy would not budge off of the $72 dollars, I walked outside the door, and beat it on the concrete curb until, It broke in three pieces! I’ll never forget the look on that man’s face! I grabbed the case, walked out and got in my truck and left! Sometimes I feel like the people in the pawnshop industry takes advantage of people, and the lack of knowledge that they have! I’ve never tried to pawn or sell anything again! I always found another avenue to take, if I was trying to sell something! I also, have a handful of very old silver dollars that my father had. I took them to a jewelry store, and the man offered me for the silver value which that’s all the coins were worth $60 apiece! I stop by the same pawnshop that I went to with the musical instrument, and asked them how much they would pay for the silver value, and they said that they would give me $22.30 apiece! When I showed them the paperwork from the jewelry store, the guy said that he missed, figured the amount, and he went back And redid the math and he told me that he would give me $61 for each silver dollar! Which proves to me he didn’t make a mistake offering me $22.30! They are safe and Tucktaway in a safety deposit box! I would rather throw them in the Gulf of Mexico, before I let someone rip me off! There’s a little saying, and the pawn industry, Buy diamonds from People like they were made of glass, buy gold from People. As if it was made of brass! JIMMY MCNEELY
