I enjoyed the series with the exception of the way that they portrayed Grant in several circumstances. They attempted to make him appear as much tougher on Lee than he actually was. In the series they made the meeting in Appomattox at McLean's house appear that Grant walked in and was very tough on Lee. According to the Memoirs of Grant Lee did remember Grant from the Mexican American War and it surprised Grant. They sat for some time and had pleasant conversation. Though Grant couldn't understand why Lee would stand for the things that he did, he still respected Lee and suggested that Lee genuine in his convictions. Further they also met on horseback the next day because Grant wanted to see Lee again. They discussed much of the same and made provisions for the men to see their friends on the other side.
