The beauty in this movie is that it uses subtle and simplistic ways to illustrate the struggles of life that we can all share and relate to. Alan’s struggle with his faith, self harm and depression, Charlie’s multiple struggles with his choices in life, self doubt, self harm, remorse and relations with his ex wife and daughter. Liz’s struggle with abandonment and betrayal with Charlie’s decisions that basically took advantage of her good will. And an overarching theme that humans are “incapable of not caring”. It was majestically positioned together to trigger viewers to see life in different perspectives. It was made to make us look at what makes us anxious and fearful (the imageries of self hate and indulgence for example), the perception of being a bad parent raising a child that seemingly was evil but in fact Ellie was also incapable of not caring. The pivotal moments in this movie were delivered with a lot of grace and expression from the actors and directors. Watch it with an open mind and feel your heart open up as you see these characters try to unwind and unravel their struggles. Really heartfelt and really emotional.
