Those in charge of this series spent a lot of money and did very well choosing their set designers, cinematographers and costumers. Visually, the series is quite impressive indeed. The casting was competent but no more than that. Where the producers really failed was in hiring writers (ten of them!) and editors (nine of them). Either that or the thing was competently written to run twice as long and in editing it down the writers were made to look bad. It may be a combination of both failings. Either way, the result is a mess, as if every other page of the script was blown away in those steepe winds. As a result I don't think the actors know what sort of characters they are supposed to play. They can't be consistent. The story line is self-contradictory, obscure, meandering, and frustrating for a viewer who would like to connect with the characters.
It's hard to say how much of the blame should fall to the directors, all eight of them. Did they ever talk to each other? To the editors? Regardless, it's clear that no one competent person held all the threads of story in one hand and ensured a knitting together.
My recommendation: mute the sound and enjoy the visuals. If you're into that sort of thing, unmute for the fighting scenes. Just don't invest any effort in trying to follow the plot; it's not worth it. Netflix cancelled the series after two seasons of taking a huge financial loss. They did the right thing.
