I agree with everything I'm seeing in all the one star reviews. Very little story, no significant twists to speak of, and a very long pointless diversion about war.
One thing I do want to point out that I'm not hearing in. The other comments is how sexist this is. The final conclusion that Joel and Stella come to is that if Liza hadn't lied about who the “affair" was with, then Dexter, Pete, and herself would probably still be alive.
I think the correct way of looking at this is that Pete banning is a psychopath. There was no betrayal by Liza. She was under the impression that her husband was dead. Pete didnt kill Dexter out of emotion or passion, it was a calculated move that served no purpose and ruined his family.
On a side note, Liza was thinking about accusing the black guy she was sleeping with of rape knowing that he would probably be killed for it.
Really the only good person in this story seems to be Dexter Bell.
This is the third book I've read by John Grisham.the other 2 were fantastic! This was a total waste of time.
