Rin pissed me off so bad here: mainly with the repetitive instance of her shutting up anyone she doesn't want to listen to because they're saying something she doesn't want to hear. "okaaaaay wouldn't you do the same?" not when what they're saying is so clearly IMPORTANT INFORMATION but because it hUrTs tOo mUcH to confront she just cuts off the conversation. Case in point, Kitay, Jiang, and Hanelai. If she would have just LISTENED so much shit could've been avoided. 4/10. I can't stand aggravating FMCs. also, its her lack of ability to learn from her mistakes that dragged on this book for longer than it needed to be. for example: the LAST time she woke a god, Feylen, he came back to bite her in the ass and because he is a god, his defeat didn't happen until two books later. now you're getting hit with THE SAME SITUATION WITH THE SAME WARNINGS FROM THE SAME PEOPLE as last time, and again you think the entity will *surely* fight for your cause? the definition of insanity is repeating the same process and expecting a different result. I call this stupidity and for someone who prides in being a Sineguard student, you should be smarter than this Rin. Her death. I really don't know what to make of it. started on August 2nd at 6 something in the morning finished at 2:23am on August 5th.

⚠️SPOILERS, TW: IMPLIED SA, RAPE⚠️ done. before I get into anything else, I need to address this—did the dragon SA Nezha or did I read the room wrong? to make your own conclusion, I've included the excerpt from the book: *Nezha didn't seem to have even heard. "My mother wishes I'd died that day. I wish I'd died. I wish it had been me. But it's selfish even to wish I were dead because if I had died, then Mingzha would have lived, and the Dragon Lord would have cursed him like he cursed me, he would have **touched** him like he touched me."* *She didn't dare ask what that meant.* I feel kinda dumb cuz I feel like its pretty obvious that Kuang implied that but I need a second opinion just to make sure I'm not jumping to this conclusion because what happened to Venka is still fresh in my mind. but, assuming I DID guess right, here's my thoughts on that: I'm gonna need to take a long break away R. F. Kuang cuz her fixation on SA backgrounds is getting TOO crazy. cuz what do you mean a DRAGON? what- what the fuck. There's dark fantasy and then there's...whatever the fuck this pattern is. there's a line between addressing trauma in literature and this level of...repetitive, increasingly extreme SA scenarios? Like, we went from already heavy human trauma to a fucking dragon. what in the actual fuck. With that out the way, this is a 6/10 for me because again, I rate books based on their second read potential and there were just too many tragedies in this book for me (Jinzha's remains being put into dumplings, Rin witnessing a RAPE). it got to the point I needed to walk away for a good minute and I can't have that when I'm tryna read cuz I read. FOR FUN. I read to have a good time y'know, to get away from depressing themes. Again, if you can stomach the heavy shit no problem, go for it👍 ten out of ten read. but I truly hate tragedies—Imma need another Spinning Silver SOON. started on July 29th at 5:07am finished on August 1st at 5:14am.

⚠️SPOILERS, TW: RAPE⚠️ damn. just...damn. 7/10. the score isn't because the protagonist was annoying, or the writing sucked or literally anything that had to do with the author. its just because I AM the weak-hearted. I have a friend in college who is an avid reader. when I told her I was reading The Poppy War, she told me TOO MANY times to be careful with that shit because its based on Chinese/Japanese warfare so the shit that happened wasn't for shockvalue, its based on real atrocities during that time. I should've taken the warning and left it aloooooone bro. I thought they were saying it got heavy because Rin (our main character) would be a victim of rape. I WOULD'VE dropped the book had that been the case, but she was like "nooooo, not her." and said nothing else as to not give too much of the plot away. so I was like "cool, I can push through the SA backstory of a supporting character, Imma read it." ||chapter 20 comes about, and I'm thinking the horrid descriptions of the bodies the Federation (enemy country) left behind was what she was warning me about.|| ⚠️**this is where that TW comes in**⚠️ ||NEVER would I have imagined those soldiers would have cut open the vaginas of young girls to make it easier to rape them while Venka (a supporting character) watched before she was next. my God I was so sick I felt like crying.|| so, I am the weak-hearted. now if you're someone who can handle the heavy shit without blinking an eye, ten out of ten read. 5 stars. but me personally, I rate a book based on its second read potential, so I will likely not pick this up again, but it is a GREAT story. Started on July 25th at 5:13am finished on July 28th at 4:50am.

It was mad annoying when everytime Reggie tried to admit he was a vampire, something unconventionally interrupted them. It got to the point of being clearly forced just to push the miscommunication longer. 6/10. Now I may be a little bias because no one will be better than the original couple. So, would I reread this? No. Was this an entertaining read? Yes. Will I buy the book? Yes. Started at 7:38am on July 23rd finished on July 24th at 4:17pm.

AHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA YAAAAAAAAAY I LOVED THAT!! It was wrapped up well, no annoying FMCs, third breakups, or miscommunication tropes IN SIGHT! 8/10. Done. It took me longer than I wanted to finish it, but I put alot of that on the fact I was stalling on the chapters where Rhen made an appearance (I miss my people😭😭😭). The rest of it was due to the fact reading Callyn’s POV was a chore to me. She pissed me off. Like a lot. If you saw my timestamped thoughts you'd see. But overall, 7/10. I done goofed by not checking the status of the series, and turns out its not finished😀 the last one comes out in 2026 but I'll be swamped with school by then so I doubt I'll be able to just sit and read the way I am now. KEMMERERRRRRRRRRR!! DROP ANOTHER RHEN/HARPER STORY YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY I PROMISE!! HAVE MY MONEY! Started on July 11th at at 8:53pm. Finished on July 14th at 7:24pm.

⚠️SPOILERS: CHARACTER DEATH⚠️ And we're done. I liked how that wrapped up, with Rhen's POV being the last. 7/10. I'm not gon hold you that last chapter really bumped up the score from a five to a seven. Although I hate, hate, HATED how I was tricked to believe that would be the end of that bitch (Lilith) in book 2, I understand how it was necessary in order to achieve peace. The complexies of the story and the prides of Rhen and Grey made it pretty fucking impossible for them to come together on their own—even with Harper's meddling. What better way to unite people than a common enemy? It works everytime. I also want to apologize to Maven Calore for the comparison of him and Lilith. She was so much worse so I apologize for slandering your good name. I'm extremely upset for the death of Iisak. I'm glad I got to know what happened to his son, though confused as to what became of him. Whether he went to claim his throne or continued running from it. He had a complicated relationship with his father so I feel he isn't the type to go back cuz he feels obligated to; even with the death of his father. That part about the female soldiers? That hit too hard. The way Harper described that universal woman experience of scanning a room and only being able to breathe when you spot other women? The author KNOWS. The rating ISN'T to due the writing, it was really well written. But it can be contributed to all of the following things: ◇ multiple POVs. I just wanted it be to Harper & Rhen again. ◇ Lia Mara's inability to fucking act. I get her whole no-violence thing, but it got to a point—2 attempts in less than 24 hours IS that point. ◇ Iisak's death (I AM the weak hearted idc) ◇ there were times where they kept going in fucking circles. ◇ there was no epilogue chapter. I still have concerns. Would I reread this? Only the first book. Not even gon hold you. The third book could've been that comeback IF ONLY it was just Rhen & Harper again. I didn't care for Lia Mara's POV. I really didn't. Sometimes authors try to expand the world but end up diluting what made me fall in love with the story in the first place. It felt like ordering my favorite dish but getting served a buffet of mediocre sides instead. Funny enough, the only reason I got the honor to read this series was because my sister was cleaning her closet and found the first book lying there. I woke up to it on my bed beside me and everything went from there. Started at 12:10am on July 6th, ended at 9:47pm on July 7th.

Five out of fucking ten. That last twist was not necessary- why can't a character ever just DIE AND STAY DEAD?! I just- all that pain and for what. Lilith reminds me of Maven and that pisses me off to no end; she's so stuck in her love for someone who will NEVER love her back she makes it everyone else's problem. Nothing like a toxic obsession to fuck up everyone's day. Started July 4th at 3 something in the morning 2025. Finished at 11:44pm on July 5th, 2025.

I don't know if this is the same for anyone else, but Brigid somehow made me understand why Rhen wasn't honest with Harper. Usually, I'd be screaming at the pages saying "OMGOSH JUST TELL HER! GET IT OVER WITH!" but here, Kemmerer got through to me. I love them! I love Rhen & Harper so much it HURTS. Maybe its Rhen's POV that does the heavy lifting for that (especially chapter 36) because the way he yearns is so deep I as the reader FEEL IT. I've never wanted a couple to work out so bad. AND THE PLOT TWIST AT THE END? IN THE SNEEK PEAK FOR THE NEXT BOOK?! I WAS FLOORED.

FINALLY!! FUCKING FINALLY I'M DONE!! THANK GOD!! **THIS BOOK**: 2/10. It was so hard to get through it was that fucking boring. **THE WHOLE SERIES**: I hated it. The 2-3 paged chapters pissed me off, along with whose POV it was. Adeyemi did too much; what in her left mind (because she was clearly not in her right one) made her think introducing a completely NEW system in the FINAL book was a good idea? She could've ended the main series with book 2. Also, wtf happened to Roën? He was one of my VERY FEW favorite characters and he was just- *forgotten* after the 2nd book. The biggest pet peeve I have when it comes to books is when the concept is interesting—something I've never seen before—but the writing is bad. For example, the concept of Cancers in this series; people who control/make disease with the wave of their hand? Cool asf. But I hate we didn't see much of their power in all three books. **THE CHARACTERS**: Loved Kenyon, Roën, The Green Maidens & Mae'e. Eveyone else PISSED👏🏾 ME👏🏾 OFF👏🏾 Everytime they had an important message to relay and VERY LITTLE time to say it, their chapters always go "I know I should speak, but my throat constricts as I look into the icy eyes of-" *GET IT TO-FUCKING-GETHERRRRRRR*!! **Inan**: I didn't care for his sacrifice—his back and forth between wanting to kill magic to wanting to save it and back again? Over it by the end of book ONE. He got plunged to the deepest hatreds of my heart once he got Baba killed; after that it was *go die*. **Amari**: After she sacrificed that entire village it was *go die* for her too. **Tzain**: I liked that he supported Amari's new relationship with Mae'e. Even though he still loved her, he let her go. **The Green Maidens**: Man with the way they were fighting they need something more than "The Green Maidens". They were so metal in the final chapters I loved them. **THE AUTHOR, ADEYEMI**: She killed me with the fanficky sound effects she was using—"Argh!", "Ugh!", "Ha!", BOOOOOOOOOOM—I cringed every single time. New York Times just be letting anybody in. **THE ENDING**: It felt unfinished. ***1)*** What happened to Inan's mother? I have a hard time believing she just let her decades-long grudge of maji go after the final battle; especially with her son now dead. ***2)*** We didn't get any closure for Roën. He was just forgotten in book 2. ***3)*** How's Mae'e's dad? Emperor Jorah? He was forgotten too.
