I have never played this series before and got the game just because I finished with Astrobot and was looking for another fun platformer. As it happened the game was on sale online as well. This is, hands down, one of the best games I’ve ever played and I’ve been gaming on and off for the past 40 years. The worlds are incredibly well designed and the graphics simply beautiful. However the real standout for me are the controls combined with the various weapons which make combat an absolute joy. One moment you’re firing off a blizzard of green dots and the next, when you realize you’ve expended your ammo for that weapon, you’re hurling bombs or unleashing a huge energy bolt. Then you can reposition yourself using either a teleporting rift or your jet boots. There’s not been a single fight that I’ve gotten bored or frustrated in. The story is also solid, providing a good reason for visiting the various planets and locations which are filled with interesting and funny side-characters and wildlife. I am very eager to buy the next game as soon as it comes out.
