I've just finished watching this movie and I liked it so much that I just had to write this review. Watch it. All I have to say about it.
What brought me here after the movie was to learn a bit more about the beautiful Spanish actress who plays the role of Javier's wife and I was shocked when I glanced at some the critics' reviews that have been posted. And it's because of them that I'm writing.
I hope no one is misled by those "expert opinions" and ends up missing this touching story.
I must include what came to mind as I read some of those critical reviews - a few lines from Alexander Pope's An Essay on Criticism, where he described the work of critics. This was written over three centuries ago, but seems to still apply today:
Such shameless Bards we have; and yet 'tis true,
There are as mad, abandon'd Criticks too.
The Bookful Blockhead, ignorantly read,
With Loads of Learned Lumber in his Head,
With his own Tongue still edifies his Ears,
And always List'ning to Himself appears.
All Books he reads, and all he reads assails,
From Dryden's Fables down to Durfey's Tales.
With him, most Authors steal their Works, or buy;
Garth did not write his own Dispensary.
Name a new Play, and he's the Poet's Friend,
Nay show'd his Faults - but when wou'd Poets mend?
No Place so Sacred from such Fops is barr'd,
Nor is Paul's Church more safe than Paul's Church-yard:
Nay, fly to Altars; there they'll talk you dead;
For Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread.
