I feel like DuVernay didn't have a good enough grasp on the source material to make a good movie. The book plays on some huge ideas that really don't come through strongly in the film. It does have some redeeming qualities however. Storm Reid is fantastic as Meg Murry given what she had to work with. Storm, and the other child actors makes this film work. It does have heart, and there are lessons that could be taken away from this for families to tackle together. It could have been so much more than it was in my opinion, but we are left with what it ended up being; a film that won't be remembered in the long run.
