As a long time fan of The Black Keys, I’ve loved every album they’ve put out and Ohio Players is no exception.. though this album doesn’t always feel like The Black Keys to me. Even with Turn Blue taking things in a different direction back in 2014, it still felt like them. Ohio Players goes for a much more produced and polished radio friendly sound and is far less of the garage or blues rock most are used to. Ohio Players sounds much more like a Dan Auerbach solo record or something from The Arcs with some Blakroc style tracks. So in other words, it’s slightly disappointing as a Black Keys record, but I can’t deny it’s a pretty solid album with some great songs.
