"Nope, today is not the 1st of January nor is it the 2nd, it is not even a 2012 diary. It is but a book, a record of my thoughts. That is all, for I would love to remember the thoughts I once had when the crimson eighteenth year of my life closed in all around me"
MY GIRLFRIEND'S JOURNAL
-Ashvin Raj
My rating:3.5/5
'My girlfriend's journal' is the first part of the series 'Lies of truth'. This is a very short and crisp read.
The book is the journal of an 18 -year old girl, Neha whose whole life revolves are God. We can say that the entire book is a conversation between her and God. Most of the entries in the journal are even addressed to God.
The best thing about the book was the addition of bible verses, songs, sketches and poems in it. It helps the readers to capture the emotions of the protagonist better. I loved how the author kept it short and nice instead of adding stuff of no worth.
I had very high expectations of the book with such a nice cover and unique name. But on the contrary, it was really hard for me to get into the book. I think with a better writing style, the book could've been a bigger hit. Even though it is a journal, the book lacked emotions. Instead of showing her actual life and the people in it, the book just showed her connection with God. I couldn't relate to Neha at all and she even annoyed me sometimes. It felt like Neha's only characteristic was being a disciple of God. The title of the book confused me. I hope the relation between the name and the story will be revealed through the next books in the series.
I'm not really into evangelistic and spiritual reads, maybe that's why I couldn't enjoy it much. If you are into any of these genres, go for this one!.
