I just watched it and I caught the Jesus allegory. It was extremely touching but the plot was lacking. It felt like the movie had great characters with no real story, just situations that they wanted to put them in. What happened to the boys at the boys home? What happened to Powder's girlfriend? I understand that the point was possibly that he was too perfect and compassionate to survive happily in this world but I don't love the message that if you are different and you are judged by everybody constantly then you should just run away. I was really hoping he'd find a way to exist near people, even if there were only a few in his life. That would've given me the growth in the plot that I desired. But even after my complaints I dont hate this movie because it truly does show the ugliest sides of prejudice fairly well and I applaud them for not shying away from showing the ugliness of society. I could watch it again, but only for the tear jerking moments that genuinely make you feel for the characters.
