problematic bitch

im not sure if this book is intended to be a dark comedy or not, because everything about it is so ridiculously disgusting and unrealistic it’s hard to imagine taking it seriously. literally every character is insane and does insane, disgusting things involving murder, mutilation, sex, incest, and every bodily fluid you can imagine. with this obscene revolting imagery you would think it would be funny, but the themes the author places within makes it seem like the story is meant to be taken dead seriously. this is the literature equivalent of a gory torture movie. the disturbing scenes are memorable, sure. but everything in between those scenes is boring and dull, and the characters are underdeveloped and one-dimensional. i wouldn’t call this a horror novel as i never once felt afraid or even slightly creeped out while reading it- just bored and slightly disgusted.
