Before the whiny halo fanboys take over more of the reviews, I want to say I enjoy this show.
I have read the books, and played the games, and if you’re expecting this to be an exact copy of what you’ve digested, and can’t take it any other way, than simply don’t watch. For some reason, people can’t seem to put it in their heads that different media can in fact produce different versions. While Master Chief, and some of the characters don’t embody what they do in the games, it’s because they literally don’t have to. The crew has spun a different narrative, while following the ghost story of Halo, and has created characters that (while have changed) actually tell a rather good story. Sorry, mr. grumps in his 40’s, you can’t suck master chiefs dick as well as you can in Halo 3.
Besides the quarreling fan base, this show is pretty well thought out. Of course, there are some parts that come off as boring, slow, or bland, but that is what is expected since it’s budget isn’t that large and it doesn’t have any big names. Despite the fact, there are numerous moments that made me smile and this show handles Master Chief’s emotions in a way we don’t really see in the games, except in Halo 4. We delve into the struggle that John goes through, as he realizes the wrongs of the UNSC/ONI/Halsey. He constantly juggles his role in humanities defense, his childhood, and his coming awareness of how he became a spartan and how they keep him contained. Yes, he takes his helmet off, but so does literally every other spartan besides Chief in the games. The Elites look amazing, the Prophets as well. The new human characters that serves the covenant has a good standing and her backstory is relatively well made. The other Spartans also hold up well.
In the end, this show will either grow on you or will upset your tummy. But please, don’t come into the show expecting it to be picture-perfect and a great representation of what we see in the games. Want something that’ll tickle your balls? Try Halo: Forward Unto Dawn.
