The Modern Actor

This is going to be a very unpopular opinion but I did not like Dune 2. My biggest pet peeve was the way Denis Villeneuve used non-linear storytelling and disjointed cuts and transitions from dark to blindingly bright desert scapes, to metallic obelisks either being destroyed or blasting a random nondescript mountain side, to Austin Butlers one dimensional rise and fall from grace. It all left me confused and disappointed. I thought although the CGI, Set Design, Score and casting was impressive it  could not make up for the lack of writing. I think that in any Sci-Fi or Fantasy script the rules of the world need to be laid out and even after a second installment of Dune, I’m still unsure about what’s happening in the world. I also think that this movie suffered from their actors being too famous. I couldn’t see past Zendaya or Timothee Chalamet or Florence Pugh and definitely was distracted by Christopher Walken’s performance. Overall, I think you’re going to read a lot of hype and rave reviews about this film. I think Warner Bros Studios HAS to make sure this franchise is a success in the box office and I wish I would have just waited to see it at home.
