Omg! This character is so silly, and I couldn't figure out her role either. If she's a lawyer or former lawyer, but not a detective but can just show up everywhere is absurd. Always walking around with her tote bags, bringing a plate of cookies.... I guess she's staying in an apartment and not a hotel so she had the time to bake and bring a plate instead of wrapping them up. Even that scene annoyed me and the way she would wave her hand. I like the supporting characters, but this Elspeth (even the name is like a cartoon) is ridiculous. I'm not familiar with this actress, so I'm not sure if I despise the character or the actress, but either way this show is a miss. The only thing I have been enjoying are the familiar places that they are shooting. I live near the condo that they were shooting in and shop in that Morton Williams. It's filmed very well, and I like the other characters and actors. Even the opening scene of her with that stupid Statue of LIberty tiara like she's some small town lawyer from Idaho, was unbelievable. Chicago is just as urbane as NY, has plenty of culture, so they should have made her from a small town, hence her wide- eyed appreciation of NYC
