This is nearly the perfect movie (if there was one). The romance, drama, comedy, and action that this movie encompasses. Depardeu is simply perfect. You can feel the anguish in his soul, the love, desperation, the poetry and the passion. I never really liked foreign films. I wanted to watch and be entertained. I didn't like reading the movie. I was drug to this movie back in 1990 when I was 22 years old and not really the target audience of this film. 25% of the way through, I forgot I was reading. I was completely overtaken by the characters in this film. By the time I left, I was enthralled. I love watching this in French even though I don't speak a word. It is natural and effortless, I would not want an English Dubbed version of this film. It would never be the same. Oui Roxanne!
