Typically, I'm a huge fan of horror movies. Especially psychological thrillers that don't require a movie full of jumpscares to be scary, but this was something else-- AND not in the good way. I went into this film late at night, expecting some sort of a thrill or any emotion to be elicited at all. But no. All four of the main characters are way too stereotypical, and not only that, but the acting was terrible from every single one of them. The edgy teenage girl who's 'phone obsessed', the younger sibling who is the geeky son, the abusive father, and the cheating mother who still cares for her children. All of these roles were so useless, and added little to nothing to the actual plot. Aside from the father using unnecessary profanities every five or less minutes throughout the entire film. I understand the portrayal that they were going for, but honestly even this added nothing. This didn't make me feel for the family, and it didn't make me feel much hatred towards the father either. Actually, it only made me wonder who would've written something so awful, and the constant berating from the dad just further demonstrated this man's awful acting skills. I mean seriously. Who hired this cast?? And who wrote such basic lines for them? It takes so long for anything to ever progress in this movie, and even at the end, nothing feels explained. The set felt so low budget, and every circumstance just seemed way too convenient. Like.. everyone's phone just somehow happens to be dead or not work? And the dad lost his daughters phone somewhere outside? Only to later retrieve it when Amy comes SOMEHOW. And at the same time, everyone immediately believing Mel when she says that she caused this entire thing, and that she's a witch. This is a film that could've been done right, but it's genuinely infuriating to see the potential be completely drained and wasted by underpaid writers, and actors that were just picked up off of the street. One of the worst 'horror' films I've seen in a good while.
