This was like reading two different books. The first half of the book is about a teenage girl(Ivy)who becomes pregnant. She has nobody to support her emotionally or monetarily. She winds up living in a strict commune. Her daughter(Mia) is born and grows up within the strict community. I was rooting for this kid to do what her mother could not, mainly escape!
Having done that, she grows up attends school, holds down a job etc. Bravo for her! The second half of the book, this woman(Mia)time travels to meet up with Nathaniel Hawthorne under the perception that the Scarlet letter is the story of her life. Ridiculous and confusing!
