The people that disliked this movie did not understand it. I wish I hadn't listened to the reviews and seen it in theaters. This movie is an MASTERPIECE! Allegory, metaphors and warnings all rolled up into less than 2 hours and each one of these HIT so hard. The entire film is a reflection of what the USA does to other countries with journalism, war journalists go to war torn nations to make art and entertainment for those safely on "some farm pretending none of this is happening". Whilst also warning us that actions have consequences, politics are personal. What are those politics? Well do they really matter when someone is shooting at you (a question asked and answered in the film)? I think what makes this film timeless is the lack of overt politics but if you pay attention there definitely are hints at what is going on and why. War journalism it's self is political, as it says in the film, those who are doing terrible things do not want to be photographed doing them unless they look like a hero. I loved the scene where they got the man at the gas station to pose with the captives because it appealed to his ego, this is what real journalist do, show the truth and let you decide what lines you fall under.
