Perhaps the book was more entertaining than the film. I think there could have been so much that would have made the film work. For one, acknowledging sex addiction and demonstrating its effects on work, emotions and family dynamic. Great material to make a steamy movie with a controversial aspect that makes for great post-film conversation. Instead it was racy sex scenes (2014 racy, not 2022 racy), underdeveloped characters, and then predictable.
The acting was “meh” it wasn’t Lifetime movie bad but it wasn’t too far off. I think the main character really gave it everything she had considering what she was working with, a soft porn film masquerading as an attempt to bring about awareness of sexual addiction. The script wasn’t great either. Cheesy lines when you save the day are cringeworthy.
Predictable irks me. Surprise me with an unfortunately realistic outcome for a change. Don’t cater to the dream weavers who long for an eternity of happy endings. There are viewers that can handle real life and respect a film that depicts that. Eh, maybe I’m asking for too much.
I don’t want to give out any spoilers in case someone else wants to watch a movie that came out almost a decade ago (although there are many films that are timeless, this just isn’t one of them). What I will give is advice; if you don’t care about a storyline and just want to watch good looking people pretending to have steamy sex, watch it. If you’re bored on a weekend and have nothing better to do, watch it. If you’re looking for anything more, don’t bother. Unlike the main character, you won’t be addicted and you won’t want anymore of this film once it’s over.
