Really great WWI film. Made me think of the poem "War is Kind" by Stephen Crane. There's a line that reads: "Little souls who thirst for fight, these men were born to drill and die". In the beginning you see how excited the boys were to go off to war. One even forging his parents signature to be able to go. I can believe this was their reaction as actual footage from the WWII documentary "They Shall Not Grow Old" shows the very young soldiers as all smiles before they're sent to the front lines.
It's a great film that humanizes war. If anything, this is a great anti-war film.
