I wasn’t turned onto this show at all until someone on TikTok reviewed it in a video and said it was way better than Bridgerton. Basically playing off the disappointment in Bridgerton season 3. I found the first episode on freevee. I thought it had potential. To clarify I’ve never read any books associated to this as I’m writing this review. So got a free trial of prime video. Thank goodness it’s a trial and we don’t have to pay because we will cancel when month is up. I found there was some chemistry between Jane and Guilford. I was rooting for them. Then Jane becomes queen. I don’t care about foul language, or spicy scenes, etc like many are giving awful reviews for those reasons alone. Grow up I say to those giving a bad review for those reasons as if they watched trailer it was obvious that was going to happen. Sadly, once Jane becomes queen the show gets frustratingly boring. You don’t want to root for anyone. I’m halfway into last episode and bored to death. Mary gets no real comeuppance for her evil ways. There’s got to be give and take for good and evil, but it’s 85% evil winning through this whole show. That tends to frustrate those of us that want that HEA. I get that hard won HEAs can be the most rewarding for entertainment, but that isn’t the case here. They tried to make Jane intelligent but after she becomes queen that seems to go out the window. Even when they stop teasing about the leads having spicy time it’s over faster than any Bridgerton spicy scene and has you feeling like this could’ve been put on prime time tv w/the leads spicy time but we’re supposed to believe they have true love? Jane’s mom and Mary got way more in depth spicy scenes than the leads. So honestly that reminded me of Bridgerton season 3 real fast. They have covers of modern songs like Bridgerton, but B does it way better. One song was talking about dvds in a historical romance??? They also covered songs I’m sick to death of hearing because they are in damn near everything. The narrator was annoying as all get out. Watch at your own risk. It pulls you in first half, but after that it’s mostly awful. I should’ve learned my lesson like I did with book reviews on TikTok to read the bad reviews first because every suggestion before I started reading reviews of books was awful suggestions. I base whether or not I read something due to many reviews basically saying the same thing. I should’ve looked up these reviews before watching. I could’ve saved myself so much time. And lesson learned most TikTok reviewers saying things are great for entertainment purposes are probably 90% horrible things to consume. This to me is a lazy attempt to collect Bridgerton’s audience that has abandoned that show for the most part. I don’t think it’ll work though there are plenty 5 star reviews here. Oh one more pet peeve that is my opinion only. I didn’t care for the costumes. They were good don’t get me wrong, but you could see a garment where the stitching is clearly machine stitched. Some of Jane’s “nightgown or slip”?? Not sure what they would calll it looks like things women these days wear. Like be for real with the clothes and don’t make things blatantly obvious they were made in modern times. Just saying.
