Hats off to Prithviraj and Mohanlal for their boldness in bringing Empuraan to the Malayalam film industry, taking such a massive project forward without worrying too much about the outcome.
Given the years of anticipation and the immense hype, I had high expectations for the movie. However, I must admit that Empuraan didnโt quite meet those expectations. The movie started off well but lost its momentum midway, and the plot became quite predictable, especially since the trailers revealed too much, making it easy to foresee how things would unfold.
When compared to Lucifer, I feel Empuraan falls short in several aspects. The absence of a strong antagonist like Bobby left a noticeable void, and the movie felt overly lengthy, with the first half being far more engaging than the second. It seemed like the focus was more on grandeur and visuals rather than delivering a tightly-knit storyline that could resonate with the audience like Lucifer did.
That said, Empuraan is still worth a one-time watch, but only in a high-quality theatre to fully enjoy the experience. Just donโt go in with hyper expectations. While I respect Prithvirajโs vision and efforts, Iโm not as excited for the next installment of the Lucifer franchise as I was for Empuraan.
