Dark, slow. Weird people. From the outset it's obvious where the movie is going and that things won't work out real well, though they could have been worse. Cowboy Phil is the protagonist. He has serious mental problems the source of which, other than his sexual orientation, aren't clear. There is plenty of tension, however, and much of the outside cinematography is striking. It reminded me a little of Days of Heaven.
Not sure I got "the power of the dog." It had to do with Bronco Henry's vision of the hills and Phil's link to Peter, I guess, but, still, what was the point?
