a watchable series, although the subtext is a liberal fantasy - a faux-hollywood that did not exist in 1947. Is it a wonder given Rob Reiner's part in it? I would have enjoyed it more if it were an actual depiction of what it was like in post-war Hollywood for those trying to make it, instead of hitting us, once again with the race-based and sexuality-based hammer as if to make some sort of modern point.

a compelling and interesting series. A big surprise to me as I had low expectations. The story revolves around a 20 year old crime and the main character of course, but in a larger sense, it is more about the collateral damage and destruction this crime, which so far I cannot say for sure he committed or didn't commit, has done to Daniel's immediate family, and to others in the fictional town of Paulie. Relationships are being ripped apart all over the place while Daniel talks, and moves, at a painstakingly monotone and deliberate pace, like a man whose humanity and soul were virtually ripped out of him by his experience of 19 years on death row. it's not uplifting, it's cerebral, and frankly rather sad. but so worth a watch
