Pros:
- Amazing gameplay overall. It’s an absolute blast.
- Much better story than some previous Pokémon games.
- Good variety of Pokémon to choose from.
- Truly open world. It’s so easy to get lost and forget about your “tasks” which makes the game more fun.
- Battling wild Pokémon and trainers feels realistic compared to the wild encounters and forced trainer battles of the past.
- Paldea (the map) is vast and beautiful. The region is absolutely massive. I’m for sure not going to be able to explore every corner.
- Much more content and storylines than recent entries. There are 18 major battles not including the Elite Four.
- The “villainous” team is a step up from the last generation though still not as great as older generations.
- Typically the generational gimmick is useless but Terra is a quite fun. It adds a lot of complexity to the game.
Neutrals:
- Forced experience share is here to stay which makes leveling your Pokémon far too easy.
- Gym leaders could’ve used the Terra feature more strategically.
- TMs are now single use but can be crafted with items found after fighting Pokémon. I personally think this is fun but some people are not fans of this change.
Cons:
- Objects in the distance look like they are from video games built in 2001. The rocks and mountains are especially ugly.
- The frame rates can be truly awful some times. If you reset your game and turn off your console often you should be fine though.
- Set mode was removed. Not sure why but this was a staple for many of us. Luckily there is a workaround unlike forced experience share.
- No level scaling. Although the “choose your own path” thing sounds fun it’s not that fun if the story doesn’t scale with you.
Overall it’s turning out to be one of the funnest Pokémon games I’ve ever played. For me the pros far out way the cons. I recommend buying if graphics aren’t a deal breaker for you.
