honestly, i didn’t really understand the point of it. sure, i guess if you like history and airplanes you’d love it. but as someone who isn’t into either of those…it was boring to sit through. and i don’t think romance is even a fitting category for this movie. the “romance” was mid as hell too, because we only got like a total of MAYBE 20 minutes of it before she died. it felt like they had truly only known each other for 2 seconds, when in the movie, a lot of time had passed. they used WAY too many time skips on the romance and not nearly enough on the airplanes. so, do not watch it for romance if you plan to, since it lists it on here as a romance movie as well. i was thinking it would be like howl’s moving castle, where the war and romance was balanced well. but 90% of the movie is just…airplanes? it must be targeted to a very specific audience, and that audience just isn’t me. so if you’re an airplane lover, this is great for you! but for everyone else…don’t bother wasting two hours of your time. very disappointing for a studio ghibli movie. i’m being generous with that second star.
