I gave Suburban Gothic 3 stars because it's hard to give such a campy film 4 or 5 stars but it definitely achieves what it set out to do. It's entertaining enough to watch all the way through, but just barely. The second half is a little choppy on story line and linear progression. It starts with being able to identify with the main character and devolves into wondering what the hell is going on. There is an abundance of dick jokes, about half of which are actually funny. There is also a TON of swearing but it's used in everyday jargon and pretty fitting for all of the usage. John Waters makes a cameo and is perfect in his small role. Sally Kirkland also makes a cameo, but in her case, acts as though she's in an Oscar Nominated film. It's nice to watch a movie with a fun boy/girl lead dynamic without the forced trope of waiting for them to get together. The outcome of the movie doesn't depend on them getting together. In fact, Kat Dennings' character regularly says "screw this" and bounces from dangerous situations. The true star of this movie is Kat Denning's outfits and Matthew Gray Gubler's hair. This is relatively fun to watch, slow at times, but a weird enough time killer.
