Enjoyed watching A Quiet Place: Day One, by Michael Sarnoski and John Krasinski, who also directed and starred in A Quiet Place, parts 1 and 2. Although this prequel barely connects to the other two, aside from the aliens, and is truly less thrilling in comparison, I enjoyed its storyline and moving performances. In short, terminally ill Sam (Lupita Nyongo) must navigate her alien-infested city while protecting her degrading health, her cat, and the very anxious Eric (Joseph Quinn). Her only dream: to have pizza before she dies.
Sure it's slow and emotional, but I'm surprised by the negative reviews it received. The film feels dark and hopeless but later comes alive when Eric meets Sam and their platonic relationship unfolds in the midst of quiet despair.
Is it a must watch? No. Is it a good watch? Yes.
