It seems like all the 1 Star reviews are Christians feeling attacked. I personally really liked the movie and don’t feel as if my stance on Christianity has changed whatsoever. I think people tend to forget that in that time period often times the reverend was the law, especially in towns with no sheriff. I also think this movie highlights generational trauma within a family with a lot of very dark twists.
If you are easily disturbed, this movie is probably not for you. I don’t want to spoil the movie, but I do have to say that I did watch it twice which is rare for me. I started reading the analysis of other people’s discussions and I feel like the common theme is that we were not prepared for the dark turns this movie makes. It definitely pulls your emotions in the worst ways.
The only thing I would be critical on is the length of the movie, I feel like some parts were just unnecessary. Lastly, as always Dakota Fanning did an amazing job acting in this movie. The casting is spot on!
