Where to begin with this one.. I would rate this overall around a 3.5 stars in my book. It is definitely worth the watch depending on what you are in to as far as “horror.” I personally would put this in the psychological thriller/ mystery genre rather than horror, as I didn’t really find it scary. People on RT are comparing this movie to movies like Evil Dead as far as the scare factor and I just don’t see the comparison. The story line and plot starts strong in the beginning but slowly stops making sense towards the middle and end. I didn’t really understand the point of the rabbit with the drum but maybe I missed something there. This movie definitely makes you think and I would definitely make sure you have the time to really pay attention to it. I would recommend it though but it may not be for everyone.

It seems like all the 1 Star reviews are Christians feeling attacked. I personally really liked the movie and don’t feel as if my stance on Christianity has changed whatsoever. I think people tend to forget that in that time period often times the reverend was the law, especially in towns with no sheriff. I also think this movie highlights generational trauma within a family with a lot of very dark twists. If you are easily disturbed, this movie is probably not for you. I don’t want to spoil the movie, but I do have to say that I did watch it twice which is rare for me. I started reading the analysis of other people’s discussions and I feel like the common theme is that we were not prepared for the dark turns this movie makes. It definitely pulls your emotions in the worst ways. The only thing I would be critical on is the length of the movie, I feel like some parts were just unnecessary. Lastly, as always Dakota Fanning did an amazing job acting in this movie. The casting is spot on!

There might be a few spoilers in this so I definitely recommend watching the movie before reading this. I generally really liked this movie and it kept my attention (which is hard to do) especially for how long it was. I didn’t find any plot holes, I feel like everything was appropriately explained in the movie. Here’s where the SPOILER comes into play. It is an incredibly bold move to show young children being shot and killed on screen which is very disturbing to the majority of the audience. It does invoke anger and a sense of sadness and dread that this is a lose lose situation. I personally feel like for being a low budget film that the cgi was actually incredibly well done and trust me the acting could have been WAY worse. I didn’t find any of it cringe worthy but then again I have seen a ton of low budget horror films. So way did I rate it 4 stars? I feel like the editing could have been done a lot better. There were a lot of unnecessary scenes. I think the movie was unnecessarily long. I definitely recommend watching it and come to your own conclusions about the film.

A little disappointed, I really liked the idea for the show. A strong willed woman trying to survive in the forest following a plane crash. However, when 95%of the show is repetitive flashbacks (struggling emotionally with her “boyfriend”, overwhelmed at work, doctors office, relationship with her parents/ her childhood. Like we got it the first time around.) and 0 focus on the survival part it just got super boring. I loved the cast and characters and the visual effects but otherwise not much to it.
